Senior Harmonica Classes

with Steve Walker

Harmonica is an easy, inexpensive, and fun musical instrument that Seniors enjoy playing. It is great for those who had always wanted to learn to play music but never had the time before, or for those who had previously played a full size instrument but are no longer able to do so.

Harmonica has been proven to help develop lung strength and aid in treating those with respiratory problems, such as Emphysema, Bronchitis, and COPD. Playing music increases self esteem and improves cognitive function.

At the first class we learn to play melodies like You Are My Sunshine and When the Saints Go Marching In, and then move on to many other popular songs and learn to accompany a blues progression and play in a group. No music reading or previous musical experience is necessary.

Class size can be from 2 to 25. It can be done as a one time class or four week course culminating in a Student Concert Recital.

Students may bring a Key of C or a Hohner Bluesband Harmonica may be purchased from the instructor at the first class for $12.  The basic cost of group instruction is $150. per one hour class. The instructor has 42 years experience in music education, and has taught Harmonica Class for Upper Perkiomen and Owen J. Roberts school districts. This program has been successfully presented at Phoebe, Country Meadows, and many Senior Groups and facilities.
