Steve Walker Steve Walker has been playing music professionally throughout the Northeast for over thirty years. Steve began playing guitar while at Duke University, and music demanded his full attention as he went on to studies at Kutztown State University. Steve plays original, traditional and contemporary songs on six, twelve string and slide guitars, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, ukulele, and keyboards. A music teacher and luthier (guitarbuilder and repairman), many of the instruments he plays onstage are hand made, one of a kind creations, or Martins he helped build while a guitarmaker at C. F. Martin. Steve Walker has shared the stage with such noted performers as Tom Rush, Vassar Clements, the New Riders of the Purple Sage, Kingfish, Jesse Colin Young, Steve Kimock, Gerald Veasley, Commander Cody, David Gans, Merl Saunders, Dave Fry, Frank DiBussolo, the Recipe, Living Earth, Solar Circus, Juggling Suns, Splintered Sunlight, Dark Star Orchestra, the Donna Jean Godchaux Band, and the McCoy Tyner Trio. Some of the venues where he and Born Cross-Eyed, the popular band of which he is a founding member, have been featured include the Philadelphia Folk Festival, Lone Star Cafe, John & Peters, the Chestnut Cabaret, Brownies 23 East, Godfrey Daniels, Kutztown Folk Festival, Berks Jazz Fest, Iron Horse, Scenic River Days, Buckwha River Festival, Lyons Fiddle Fest, Silo, Wyndham Hotel, Pennsylvania State Capitol, Khyber Pass, and the Wetlands. Steve Walker is featured on the nationally released CD "Relix 20th Anniversary Concert" a live recording jamming with former Grateful Dead keyboardist Tom Constanten, David Nelson of the New Riders and other notable musicians. Steve's mandolin playing won "Best String Instrumentalist" at the 2007 Lehigh Valley Music Awards, and he was nominated for five Lehigh Valley Music Awards in 2008. He was a finalist in the 2007 Lehigh Valley Acoustic Performance Contest, and he won the "Best String Instrumentalist" award for a second time at the 2009 Lehigh Valley Music Awards. Steve Walker is well versed in Jazz, Classical, Rock, Blues, Bluegrass, Reggae, Country, and Folk styles, and traditional Celtic jigs, reels and fiddle tunes. In addition to a large repertoire of original songs, traditional material, today's popular tunes, and jazz standards, Steve Walker offers his own interpretation of classic songs by Bob Dylan, Jerry Garcia & the Grateful Dead, Bob Marley, James Taylor, Beatles, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Jackson Browne, John Prine, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, Van Morrison, Little Feat, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Elvis Presley, and many other artists. Steve is always happy to play requests, and respond to the interests and wishes of the audience. All engagements are announced on a 5000 person mailing list.
